Ironworkers Local 5 has played a major role in the construction of the D.C. regions’ most famous structures, including the Capital Building, FedEx Field, M&T Bank Stadium, Nationals Park, Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Capital One Arena, Capital One Headquarters, Amazon Headquarters, South Capitol Street Bridge and UMMS PG County Hospital.

Local 5 has run a registered and recognized apprenticeship in the region since the 1980s. The apprenticeship is an accredited college program in which participants can earn up to 24 credits towards a construction management degree. This accreditation also means that veterans can use their GI Bill to receive additional benefits while completing the program. In 2020, Local 5 designed and built a state-of-the-art training facility.
