Members of the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers are skilled in the installation of mechanical insulation, fire stopping, asbestos and lead mitigation or abatement, sound attenuation and specialty fabrications required in custom mechanical insulation installations for commercial, industrial, medical, bio-technical, governmental and educational facilities among other customer types.
This work is installed by professional mechanical insulators who have achieved journeyperson status in the union through a five-year program that includes both classroom instruction and 1,600 hours per year of on-the-job training program.

IBEW Local Union 24 member and Maryland State Senator Cory McCray is the only member of the Maryland General Assembly to have completed a registered apprenticeship.
He is also the author of a new book — “The Apprenticeship That Saved My Life” — which details his journey from the street corners of Baltimore to a registered apprenticeship and career as a union electrician, and then on to being elected to the Maryland State Senate.The book was released September 30th, 2025.
