Local 1
One of the oldest unions in North America, the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers represents the skilled bricklayers, stone and marble masons, tile setters, terrazzo and mosaic workers, finishers, and pointer/cleaner/caulkers.
Members of Local 1 lay and bind building materials such as brick, structural tile, concrete block, cinder block, glass block, and terra-cotta block, with mortar and other substances to construct or repair walls, partitions, arches, sewers, and other structures.

IBEW Local Union 24 member and Maryland State Senator Cory McCray is the only member of the Maryland General Assembly to have completed a registered apprenticeship.
He is also the author of a new book — “The Apprenticeship That Saved My Life” — which details his journey from the street corners of Baltimore to a registered apprenticeship and career as a union electrician, and then on to being elected to the Maryland State Senate.The book was released September 30th, 2025.

Qualifications
- Age – Minimum age 17.
- Education – Preferably a high school graduate or G.E.D.
- Physical Condition – Must be physically able to perform the work of the trade and be able to work a normal workweek on a regular basis.
- Must have a driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Must have a Social Security card.
- Pre-job drug screening test.

Great Pay
Journey-level members make $20 to $42 per hour and an additional $8 to $19 per hour in benefits. Apprentices start between 50 –70% of the journeyperson scale with incremental increases.
